We’re opening the new Pragovka Gallery!

On Thursday, April 10 at 6 PM, we will open a new exhibition space.

We’re kicking off the next chapter with the opening of three exhibitions: the group show Around the Clock: The Factory Effect, PPS: by Petra Navrátilová, and Phyllostachys nuda by Vladimíra Večeřová. The exhibitions will run until June 15.

For the past eight years, we’ve been based in a former factory hall in the legendary Pragovka complex. We host an international exhibition program, run a residency program for artists from the Czech Republic and abroad, organize educational activities for children, schools, and the general public, and actively support the Pragovka art community. This year’s second exhibition block opens in our newly renovated space just a few dozen meters from the original gallery. The address remains the same – we’ve simply moved into a new part of the E Factory building.

“Opening this new space is a long-awaited milestone for us. It brings improved facilities for artists and a more comfortable experience for our visitors. Along with the space, we’re also introducing a new visual identity for the gallery, once again created by Pavel Tichoň,” adds Filip Zimovjan, the gallery’s director.

Each year, we select a central theme that guides both the exhibitions and accompanying programs. This year’s theme explores sources in the broadest sense. The exhibitions are partly the result of an open call, complemented by works from Pragovka’s resident artists.

Representing Pragovka’s artists-in-residence in this block is visual artist and restorer Petra Navrátilová with her solo exhibition PPS:. Her work features collages made from historical fragments, recontextualized into poetic compositions. The meaning of these discarded, obsolete objects fades into the background as they gain new life. The two series on view – White Boxes and Black Boxes – open new interpretations and visual dialogues. Like a post scriptum to a finished story, these objects take on renewed significance and continue to communicate beyond their original purpose. The exhibition is curated by Veronika Přikrylová.

The group exhibition Around the Clock: The Factory Effect, curated by Anežka Jabůrková, investigates how the workplace leaves traces long after working hours end. The industrial space of the former Pragovka factory serves not only as a backdrop, but also as a starting point for exploring the impact of industrial labor on bodies and the environment. The featured works by Ana de Almeida, Polina Davydenko, Sáro Gottstein, Martin Kohout, Jelena Micić, Alicja Rogalska, Kateřina Šedá, Forensic Architecture, and Anna Witt offer diverse perspectives that refract and reflect this complex theme. The exhibition encourages viewers to become active participants in society and consider their role in shaping change. The range of artistic approaches shows that we all have the power to influence the world around us.

Vladimíra Večeřová’s solo exhibition centers on the concept of emptiness as a philosophical idea, connecting it to the act of deep listening in silence. For the artist, emptiness is not absence or lack, but a space of openness and calm where sound and silence meet in a dynamic relationship. The rustle of bamboo and the act of attentive listening become active components in the gallery, allowing resonance between sound, thought, and space. This meditative soundscape reveals how nature can foster a deeper connection with ourselves and the spaces we inhabit. When we quiet down, we can rediscover a lost sense of communication with the world. The exhibition is curated by Tea Záchová.

The new gallery space also brings an expanded accompanying program. Each exhibition will be enriched with evening guided tours, catalog launches, lectures, and performances. As part of the grand opening on April 10, we’ll also launch ATELIÉR, a new creative and educational space for both children and adults. Here, we’ll host our traditional family-friendly Sunday programs – the first one takes place on Sunday, April 13 at 3 PM as part of the Art and Creativity in Education Festival – along with adult workshops and school programs.

Also debuting on April 10 is the Cabinet of Wonders app – a digital exhibition guide. “With Cabinet of Wonders, we aim to create the best possible museum and gallery experience by combining digital technology, artificial intelligence, and a deeply personal approach. Our technology is easy to implement and adaptable, without requiring large investments. Pragovka Gallery’s new space is a perfect fit, and we’re excited to launch the guide there,” says the app’s founder, Lukáš Pilka.

During the opening celebration, in addition to the exhibition vernissages, visitors will also be able to explore other newly opened spaces in E Factory. At Factory Kafe, they can enjoy a special drink, and for the first time ever, the public will be able to peek inside the resident artists’ studios in the new Art Zone, available through a guided tour (advance booking required). The evening will feature a B2B DJ set by Vi Tran aka dējāvi and Tomáš Martínek aka TMA, accompanied by a site-specific audiovisual performance by Ukrainian VJ Valeriia.
