Michal Synek (*1982) is influenced by his teacher, the painter and graphic artist Pavel Rouček, and his alma mater where he focused on animation. Synek’s gestural paintings have one thing in common with the animation and that is the element of movement. For example, he depicts a jumble of inner feelings through an abstract cluster of human bodies with an emphasis on interconnectedness and a procedural character defining itself against stativity but always working in overall harmony in the final form. In his most recent work, we can see he was inspired by calligraphy and a tendency towards minimalism, characteristically reduced to a “study” of movement itself.
