Open Call 2027: Záblesky lidskosti (Flashes of Humanity)

Pragovka Gallery announces an open call for authorial and exhibition projects (meaning it is possible to apply with both authorial and curator work) to the exhibition program of Pragovka Gallery 2027, as well as for residency projects within the International residency program of Pragovka Gallery 2027.

The open call is open to both Czech and international artists and curators.

Application deadline: May 17, 2026 (11:59 PM)
Projects submitted after this deadline will not be considered.

FLASHES OF HUMANITY

What does it mean to be human today? And what, on the contrary, is inhuman? Is humanity truly an exclusive quality of humans? The theme Flashes of Humanity opens a space for exploring what we consider human in its fragility, ambivalence, and everydayness. It is not only about grand gestures of empathy, solidarity, or ethical decision-making, but also about subtle, almost imperceptible moments—brief encounters, small acts of attention, or ways of sharing space.

The topic can be approached from multiple perspectives. Traditional humanist approaches emphasize the uniqueness of human experience, while contemporary perspectives challenge this exclusivity and extend the notion of the “human” to relationships with animals, technologies, and the environment. The theme also invites reflection on how humanity is perceived and used.

We do not understand Flashes of Humanity as a fixed or clearly defined concept, but rather as an open field where personal experiences, social questions, and experimental approaches can meet. They may unfold in public space as well as in intimate situations, within images or beyond them. They can be quiet or expressive, subtle or explicit, ephemeral or lasting.

Selection process:
Exhibition and residency projects for 2027 will be selected by a nine-member professional jury (including representatives of Pragovka Gallery and selected external artists and art theorists/curators). The 2027 exhibition and residency program will be composed of projects selected through this Open Call and Pragovka Gallery’s own curated projects.
