Tomáš Ruller born 1957 Brno, Czech Republic; 1982 graduated in sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague; new media & performance artist; co-founder of the East-West School of Attention 1983, Black Market 1985, since 1989 organizes the Open Situation / European Project; was active in the opposition (Open Dialogue 88) and the Velvet Revolution (Civic Forum 89/90). In 1992 co-founded FaVU VUT in Brno, where in 1993 he founded the department of Video-multimedia-performance, in 1992/97 organized international exhibitions and symposia Hi-Tech/Art, in 1998/2000 restructured the faculty as Dean, in 2004 achieved the status of Professor and until 2020 led the Performance Studio (http://performance.ffa.vutbr.cz/). As an artist he was represented by Feldman Gallery New York, his work was published e.g. at Documenta 8 in Kassel 1987; in Elisabeth Jappe’s book Performance-Ritual-Prozess with Prestel 1993, in Performance 90’s Art & Design Magazine 1994; in RoseLee Goldberg’s book Performance since 1960 at Abrams 1998 and Performance Art at Thames & Hudson 2001; in 2021 Kant published his monograph PERFORM-MADE. He has performed at P.S.1 & 122 New York, LACE & PØST Los Angeles, Pompidou Centre Paris, Ludwig Forum Aachen, Moltkerei Cologne, O.K. Linz, Bauhaus Dessau, Fukui Video Biennale, Lodz Biennale, Venice Biennale, CSU Warsaw, PQ Prague, at festivals in Cleveland, San Francisco, Quebec, Fribourg, Tel Aviv, Santiago de Compostela, Belfast, Kirschau, Lublin, Gothenburg, Guangzhou, Beijing, Hong Kong, Chengdu, Xi’an, Hohhot, Mexico City and others. He had comprehensive exhibitions in 2017 at the Brno House of Arts and in 2018 at GHMP in Prague.
