Lucie Vobr Jestřabíková

Lucie Vobr (*1990) is a Czech visual artist whose work explores the theme of touch and the transformative potential of destructive gestures. She does not perceive such socially problematic gestures as negative, but rather as positive — as acts that allow emotions to unfold and, at the same time, open up the possibility for something new, perhaps even more useful, to emerge. The outcomes are often objects made of seemingly fragile materials such as paper, adhesive tape, and porcelain. These materials are transformed through careful and singular processes — for instance, by persistent and meticulous pencil scribbling on paper until it undergoes a visual transformation from soft white paper into a hard, metal-like object.
