Pragovka Gallery invites you to the accompanying programme for Stefan Hurtig’s exhibition SOLIDARITIES on Thursday, 8 October, from 6 pm. The evening will include the launch of a small exhibition catalogue together with the artist, followed by a conversation with Berlin-based curator Tuçe Erel on algae, symbiosis, and multispecies solidarity.
What can humans learn from algae about living together? How might we rethink coexistence beyond the boundaries between human and non-human life? SOLIDARITIES approaches these questions through a constellation of site-specific sculptural algae bioreactors, video works, and a generative sound installation that together form a performative ecology. At its centre, the three-channel video Zoé brings a gender-fluid performer into intimate encounters with algae-based materials, accompanied by an AI-generated microalgal storyteller reflecting on symbiosis and the evolutionary significance of cellular collaboration. Elsewhere, living spirulina cultures inhabit sculptural bioreactors, their growth and bubbling becoming part of the exhibition’s sonic environment. Rather than simply illustrating coexistence, SOLIDARITIES explores how biological, technological, sonic, and human bodies continually shape one another, inviting us to consider solidarity not only as a relation between humans but as a practice of living with other forms of life.
