Pragovka Gallery invites you to the accompanying program for the exhibition Jídlo jako rituál (Food as Ritual) on Tuesday, June 30, at 6 PM.
The evening will open with a communal soup-making session by the collective Polévka na baru. Preparing food together is an integral part of the group’s activities. This happening is not primarily aimed at satisfying hunger, but rather at creating an opportunity for sharing, meeting, and building a common space.
Following the happening, a curator-led tour of the exhibition will take place in the gallery. The curator, in dialogue with the participating artists, will present individual works reflecting different approaches to the themes of food, everyday life, care, and shared experience. The tour will also include the launch of a small exhibition catalogue.
After the tour, you are invited to sit down at a shared table and enjoy the soup accompanied by the performance Záznam provozu from the artist series Hausfraukunst, presented in front of the gallery by Lucie Vobr. Building on the same-titled installation presented in the exhibition, she will work with ordinary kitchen utensils — a frying pan, a pot, a lid, and a tin cup — using them as drawing instruments in the same way as in the works created for the gallery.
The performance addresses the everyday acts associated with cooking and care, drawing attention to their often-overlooked value. The drawing that emerges becomes a temporary record of these activities; like the results of domestic work, the heat traces will gradually fade and disappear.
