Kolben Space

The Kolbenspace project demonstrates a place of unceasing pulsating power where Terezie Kusbach Kolářová has been working for several years. More than any other object, this one has a distinctive inner and outer world. The former factory building bears deep imprints of the historic past, providing a sense of satisfaction, peace, and focus. In contrast to this internal peace is the surrounding development which is inexorably overgrowing and changing. New architecture is slowly creeping into both empty spaces and interior spaces. Everything is changing dynamically, rapidly growing.

In her work, Terezie Kusbach Kolářová captures not only certain mysteries and the supernatural unique beauty of this place, but also demonstrates the interpenetration of nature, of roots wanting to as if absorb and embrace the space. Thus, her works are not just a simple copy of preexisting conditions, nor perhaps the transformation and disappearance of historical architecture. They also point to the fact that in today’s globalized world, social development is becoming an increasingly fluid and complex process. The main goal of any society is to achieve stable and sustainable growth which contributes to improving the living standards of its people and ensures the long-term prosperity of the country. In this context, the concepts of growth and degrowth become key elements which need to be understood and analyzed in order to design effective mechanisms and strategies to achieve these goals while minimizing their possible negative impacts.

The Kolbenspace project focuses on exploring the dynamics of these concepts and their mutual relationships, with an emphasis on the current challenges and opportunities of the space. Thus, growth/ fasting oath/ growth/ degrowth is a phenomenon related to the dynamics of development and change within not only natural and social systems, but also our inner thoughts and states. On one hand, it is growth that brings positive consequences, such as an increase in living standards, the development of technology, and the improvement of infrastructure. On the other hand, it is degrowth which can be associated with irreversible impacts, such as increased inequality, environmental degradation, and loss of historical features. Her vision emphasizes sustainable development and harmony between the different aspects of growth and degrowth. However, the art series is above all a demonstration of hope — the vision that all growth can lead to something new/positive.
